Soma began its journey in 1995 just outside Toronto, Canada, with two friends that shared similar passions and beliefs. One being a chemist and the other in business management, they began to develop and make Soma hair care products in their make-shift lab. Sampling to family and friends they could trust, the results came back with enthusiastic praises. Soma launched that year with only five products, three shampoos and two conditioners with names like Wind, Rain and Cascade.
Soma’s focus has two criteria – Quality and Environmental Impact. Heading into an extremely competitive market place at its peak, Soma had noticed that as smaller companies were gobbled up by the “big guys,” the quality of the products were losing ground in favor of funding large marketing campaigns.
Professional products were shifting from stylist-support products to marketing-savvy mass retail products. At the same time, a prosperous economy over shadowed environmental awareness. Soma had an advantage, we formulated all of our own products and although more costly, Soma could make them 100% Biodegradable; more recently, completely Vegan and Organic.
Today, Soma prides itself with select quality ingredients. A wet line that now consists of over 20 Shampoos, Conditioners, Styling and Finishing products. Distribution is continuing to grow across North America, with partners that share the same visions as Soma.
